DANI YOUR DARLING
DANI YOUR DARLING utilizes mediums including writing, photography, painting, producing, poetry, illustration, digital art, singing, songwriting, and creative directing. Their intuitive artistic and curatorial practice is informed by their background in community organizing, exploring narratives surrounding Afro-pessimism, Afro-futurism, abolition, Black queerness, the mundane, disability justice, diasporic return, Land Back situated in the African continent, and their relationship with the Downtown Eastside of what is colonially known as Vancouver B.C., Canada. DANI YOUR DARLING has performed and had their art exhibited at grassroot organizations such as the Vancouver Black Library, Unity Arts Collective, Art Ecosystems, Britannia Art Gallery, Hatch Art Gallery, and many others.

how will your black joy perservere into our future unkown? There is Black joy in the renaissance I contribute to through my multidisciplinary artistry. There is joy that comes with being an audience member, engaging with the spirit of Hogan's Alley when going to the club, listening and singing along to Black music, and dancing with other Black people of various backgrounds in venues located in neighborhoods that once made up a community we would have lived in. There is joy that comes with being a performer, a musician, a DJ, contributing to cultural production in those same neighborhoods as well. We exist as creatives yet simultaneously contribute to the rebuilding of “what once was” in this city. —I can't help but find joy in how we have all persevered to build this. I hope we all get to experience the fruits of our labor one day when this renaissance feels less like a responsibility and more like something we can engage in with bliss.
